Consultation fees
I prefer to make things simple and easy to remember, so I charge:
Initial consultation:
Self funding patients: £250
Insured patients: As agreed with the insurer
Follow up consultations:
Self funding patients: £125
Insured patients: As agreed with the insurer
Surgical fees
If you have private medical insurance then the cost of surgery is usually covered by your insurer and this includes all the costs of hospital treatment
Clinical research fees
If you are struggling with a clinical decision within my field of expertise then I do offer a specialist research servcice. If you tell me your clinical problem then I will search the literature for you to find the best available evidence to assist in your clinical decision making process. I aim to present the literature findings in an easily digestible format to help you weigh up your options as applied to your particular problem. You don't necessarily have to be my patient to commission this service. The clinical research service often lends itself well to patients who have been previously assessed by another surgeon, but are unsure about their choices. My aim is to offer a second opinion with evidence to enable your decision process. I would aim to provide a comprehensive report within 1 week of commisision. This service costs £600 and lends itself well to remote consulation, so you don't need to travel.

FAQs
Do I need a GP referral?
If you are paying for your own treatment, then a referral is not necessary. Some insurers do require a GP referral before they will authorise a consultation, investigations or any subsequent treatment. The best advice it to check with your insurers. Many referrals come from physiotherapists and some insurers will now accept that mode of referral.
Do I need private medical insurance to be seen?
No....While most people being treated in the private sector will have insurance cover, an increasing number are choosing to fund their own treatment. I would usually invoice patients directly for consultation fees through a company called MedServ.
If surgery is recommended and you choose to proceed, then private hospitals will generally require full payment for surgery in advance. As a self pay patient there are a variety of ways to pay for treatment. Some patients are choosing to obtain a financial loan in order to fund the surgery that they need.
What is an operation code?
Operative procedures all have a code number used by hospitals and insurers. I will supply you with this procedure code in my clinic letter to allow you to obtain an authorisation number from your insurer.
